Cold and generally miserable conditions greeted the competitors in the Northern Ireland and Ulster Senior Championships held for the first time in many years at the Antrim Stadium.

For once the wind was working in favour of the sprinters but no doubt they would have welcomed a little more haet.  Amy Foster (North Down) produced what was hailed as the shock of the championships by beating Anna boyle in the 100 metres. It has to be noted however that Anna had competed in Oslo the night before and had risen at 5.00 am to make the two flight journey back to Antrim when many others would have stayed in their beds.

As usual there was a sprinkling of visitng overseas athletes but how much they added to the event is in my opinion questionable.

Outstanding among the  local performers were the aforementioned Amy Foster, another 16 metres plus from Eva Massey; middle distance victories for Kelly Reid, Kerry Harty, Paul Pollock, Joe McAllister; a throws double by Jeremy Harper and some very promising results by some of our up and coming athletes like Andrew Graham, Andrew Gourley; Jason Harvey, Hannah Lewis, Anna Rainey and in particular Noel Collins in the steeplechase.
