Welcome to the official Athletics NI statistics website.
While for many the season is coming to a close for the eleven athletes chosen for the Commonwealth Games in India there are almost three months of trying to recover from the process of qualifying and then re-peaking for the Games. The eleven athletes names are Kelly McNeice , Ciara Mageean and Jason Smyth who were announced earlier along with Amy Foster, Stephen Scullion, James McIlroy, Tom Reynolds and the four girls who make up the 4 x 400 metres relay squad namely Joanna Mills, Katie kirk, Christine Mcmahon and Jo Patterson.
There has been some criticism of the idea of sending a relay team but it should be remembered that these four girls produced the second fastest time ever by a Northern Ireland squad with very little opposition. If they can reporduce that time they have a very good chance of making a final and holding their own.
Ciara Mageean will go to the Games on a high having produced a remarkable performance to take Silver in the World Junior Championships in Canada smashing her personal best. Meanwhile at the European Championships Amy Foster was part of an Irish team which also broke new ground with an Irish Record.
